Welcome to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). DBHDD provides treatment and support services to people with mental illnesses and addictive diseases, and support to people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities. DBHDD serves people of all ages with the most severe and likely to be long-term conditions.

OPSP is now officially part of DBHDD. It was for a short time located in the Division of Public Health and was called Substance Abuse Prevention and Behavioral Development. Moving this office was part of the reorganization of the former Department of Human Resources that became effective July 1, 2009.

July 1, 2009 - Georgia’s new state agency in charge of services for mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive diseases officially began operations today. The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) was created as part of the reorganization of the former Department of Human Resources that became effective July 1, 2009.
